Are you getting a high number of unsolicited telephone calls offering products or services you have not solicited? Even worse, are you getting them at odd hours of the day? To get rid of them, all you have to do is register your telephone numbers (land, cel or both) with Mexico’s Federal Office of Consumer Protection, Procuraduría Federal del Consumidor, or PROFECO. You can register your numbers via telephone, email or at their website, which is the simplest way to proceed:
1. Log in to http://repep.profeco.gob.mx
2. Click on Registra tu Número to register your number.
3. Enter the information as requested (see below).
4. Click on the big blue Registrar button at the bottom to register.
If you continue to receive unsolicited calls, you can file a complaint with PROFECO by providing the name of the company and/or the telephone number registered in your caller ID.
There are exceptions to this procedure, such as non-profit organizations, political organizations and banks or credit institutions that are wondering why you haven’t kept your payments up to date. Alas, you will continue to receive their calls!
