A new GoFundMe campaign was launched in Puerto Vallarta to raise funds for families affected by the Coronavirus. “The goal of the campaign is to raise $10,000 USD and we have seen an extraordinary response from the community in less than 24 hours,” commented Paul Crist, who launched the campaign yesterday.
Unlike other countries, Mexico does not have a state or national unemployment benefits program. When a worker loses her job, she’s on her own. And although the Mexican government has asked companies throughout the country, small and medium businesses are doing all they can to stay afloat but few can continue supporting staff right now with no income.
Paul and a team of “Coronavirus Cavaliers” are assembling and distributing basic despensas, or food baskets with healthy staple foods, fruits and vegetables, hygiene products, baby diapers and masks to limit the possibility of spreading the virus. 80 food baskets have already distributed but there is much work ahead to be done in order to reach those in dire need.
