WALK-AROUND: Casas Antonieta in Yelapa

As promised, we take a look at Casas Antonieta in Yelapa—three adjoining properties ideal to rent together as a larger group, or individually. Our friend and Community Partner Michael Boufford generously donated the lodging required for me to film this walk around, which of course, serves as a source of funding for friend and Community Partner Alexis Velasco to further his studies in cultural tourism.

SPANISH WORD OF THE WEEK: Estrenar

Estrenar is a Spanish verb that means to use, wear, or show something for the first time. It can describe anything from putting on new clothes, driving a new car, or moving into a new home, to experiencing a city or dish for the first time. In Mexican culture, estrenar carries a sense of celebration — it’s about giving that “first time” a little sparkle. Beyond objects, the word can also apply to people: a quinceañera, for example, is a way of estrenarse into a new stage of life. At its heart, estrenar is about honoring beginnings, both big and small.
