Welcome to Coffee and Headlines, where we take a look at headlines from our city, our state and our country, Mexico, and exchange, questions, comments, tips and suggestions on how to best connect with Puerto Vallarta, our home, as an English-speaking community of locals. We broadcast Monday through Saturday at 10:30 am on Facebook and make the broadcasts available on YouTube throughout each day.
Here are some of the most common questions we get asked about Coffee and Headlines. If you don’t find an answer, feel free to contact us using either one of the links, below!
Contact
What is the best way to contact you directly?
By using the contact form on the website: www.paco-ojeda.com/contact
I sent you a message on your PERSONAL Facebook page and you did not answer it. Why?
I only welcome messages on my PERSONAL Facebook page from actual Facebook friends. I only add new Facebook friends when the request comes from someone I actually know or met beforehand. If we are not Facebook friends, kindly use the contact form, above. Better yet, feel free to reach out during the live broadcasts—that’s what they are for.
If I send you a question or comment privately, can I expect a private reply?
As a general rule and more often than not, if the remark to your question or comment includes information that others may benefit from knowing, I bring up the questions or comments in the next available broadcast and address them accordingly, reserving the right to mention you by name unless you explicitly request otherwise.
If your question has to do with answers to specific topics, i.e. can you recommend a dentist, do not expect a reply. That is what the live broadcasts are for, for you to tap into the vast knowledge shared by cluster members. Kindly join us during the live broadcast and ask away.
Content/Topics
What topics do you feature in Coffee & Headlines?
Aside from relevant top headlines from local, state, national and international newspapers, I focus on anything that can help the local English-speaking community to better connect with Puerto Vallarta and also to better understand aspects of Mexican history culture that may be relevant for those that call Puerto Vallarta ‘home.’ I am particularly drawn to interesting stories as they relate to new businesses, projects, milestones, etc., and always try to break down stories into two broad categories: Headlines (the truly important stuff) and Leisure.
In addition, and based on personal interests, I also occasionally feature stories about music, performing arts, technology, nature and silly stuff that may or may not be related to Puerto Vallarta.
Where do you get your news from?
I browse through headlines from 25+ local, state, regional, national and international reputable news sources to select the content for each broadcast. In addition, a number of members are in the habit of submitting news items that others might be interested in learning more about. Reliable news sources are important to me, so I stay away from “a friend just told me…” or “I heard from a good source that…” -type situations.
I have a suggestion on a topic/news item. Can I send it to you?
Absolutely! Please use either one of the Contact links mentioned elsewhere in this document. For the sake of accuracy, we welcome your links from credible sources (news websites, Facebook events, etc.) so we can continue offering the most reliable, complete information we can.
I have a specific question about something. Can I ask you?
More often than not, someone from the community is likely to have an answer for you during the broadcasts. You are always welcome to contact me directly (see the Contact section) but I cannot guarantee that I will be able to find answers for every individual question. And when I do, if the answer could be relevant for the community, it is addressed and (hopefully) answered during the live broadcasts.

How do I get notified when you broadcast?

Facebook gives you the option to receive notifications to for all we publish. Please check with Facebook on how to configure this accordingly.
I am not available to watch the show live. What can I do?
No worries. All shows are archived on Facebook and on YouTube for you to enjoy at your own pace. And of course, you can find them here on the website!
Can you repeat the name of that place you mentioned the other day that was truly awesome?
No, I cannot. That is what the show notes are for. Kindly use the search function on the website and enjoy the vast amount of knowledge we’ve accumulated since we began broadcasting on March 31, 2020.
Are there any rules for engaging through comments on the daily broadcasts?
Yes. We take pride in being an upbeat, nurturing, diverse and inspiring community, exchanging information obtained from reliable sources. As such, we kindly ask that if you wish to interact by commenting during a live broadcast, you:
- Feel free to say ‘hello’ and where you are watching from.
- Feel free to say ‘thank you’ whenever you found a particular broadcast enjoyable.
- Refrain from making blanket statements such as ‘___ is useless,’ or ‘people from ___ are horrible,’ or ‘the food at restaurant ___ is lousy,’ unless you are ready to back your statements so the community can benefit from your knowledge and expertise.
- Respect other people’s opinions, and if yours is different, kindly say so respectfully.
- Refrain from sharing bits of information that you obtained from hearsay, i.e. ‘somebody told me that…’ or ‘I read on Facebook that…’
- Feel free to provide word-of-mouth commentary on your favorite show, restaurant, shop, etc., but kindly refrain from posting promotions or advertisements of any kind, or to promote your own business.
- Kindly try to keep your comments focused on the subject at hand: Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico as experienced by English-speaking locals.
- Address every member of the Coffee & Headlines community with respect.
- Advertisements and promotions of any kind must be first cleared through us and they will be deleted after the broadcast (please see Advertising & Promotion section, below).
- Discrimination or hate speech of any kind is not acceptable.
- If you don’t understand the difference between laughing with someone and laughing at someone, you truly need to be somewhere else.
Failure to follow these five guidelines will result in being banned from Coffee & Headlines.

Advertising & Promotion
Can I advertise my business in Coffee & Headlines?
No. We don’t have advertising options at Coffee & Headlines at present time.
But I hear you mentioning several businesses constantly. What’s up with that?
At Coffee & Headlines we love mentioning and promoting:
- Businesses whose owners/staff actively participate in the ongoing conversation that takes place during our daily broadcasts.
- Folks who take the time to share with us interesting and compelling stories about their business.
- Word-of-mouth accounts of not-to-be-missed experiences in town such as new businesses openings, great restaurants, shows, day passes, activities and so on.
Will you cover our new restaurant if we invite you for a free meal?
No. You run the risk of me not liking it and then sharing my opinion truthfully on the broadcast. Do you really want to go there?
Do you ‘cover’ events like traditional reporters do?
I do not. I attend things when the information provided by the organizer has provided enough compelling information (on a Facebook event, on a press release) to pique my interest.
How do you pick upcoming events to mention during the broadcast?
More often than not I look at the Facebook events taking place in Puerto Vallarta. Anyone can post one there, it’s free, and a great way to disseminate information about an event and why people should be compelled to attend.
We are a local non-profit organization. Will you promote us?
I will attempt to mention specific events if relevant information is sent to us in a timely fashion or if it is published as a Facebook event (see above). But above and beyond that, Coffee & Headlines does not stand behind or support any non-profit organization in Puerto Vallarta or surrounding areas.
I want to offer a special perk or promotion to Coffee & Headlines. How do I go about it?
Please contact us directly first. Any special perk, promotion or any kind of advertising posted on the comments during or after the broadcast will be deleted.
