Vallarta Lifestyles’ managing editor Paco Ojeda returns to the stage for another series of musical showcases, the first one to take place at The Palm Cabaret and Bar on Saturday, November 28, at 4 pm—yes, a matinee. “One, Two, CHA-CHA-CHA!” will be an exploration of the fiery rhythm that first took America by storm during the 1950s through film clips and live song and dance performances.
“The challenge for me is to come up with ideas that will make people excited about music in general, and inviting local and visiting performers that will best complement each show,” explains Ojeda.
Last season, Ojeda entertained locals and visitors with a series of birthday tributes for music legends such as Carole King, Barbra Streisand, and the late Karen Carpenter, all of which featured a clever combination of narrative, video excerpts and live music performed by local and touring artists.
“The challenge for me is to come up with ideas that will make people excited about music in general, and inviting local and visiting performers that will best complement each show,” explains Ojeda, whose presentations frequently filled the popular Olas Altas venue to capacity last season.
Having featured everything from flamenco dancers, staged theatrical readings, and a handful of top-notch musicians including local sensation Kim Kuzma, former John Denver vocalist Renee Armand and everybody’s favorite Amy Armstrong among others, what can Ojeda have in store for this season? In One, Two, CHA-CHA-CHA will enjoy carefully-chosen moments in movie history that brought cha-cha-cha to mainstream audiences. Local latin trio ‘Piel Canela’ (Fernando Huerta, Eduardo León and Santiago Pineda) will provide the musical foundation for vocalists Kim Kuzma and Juan Pablo Hernández to truly shine through a few latin rhythm favorites made popular by Peggy Lee, Nat King Cole and others, along with Piel Canela frontman, Fernando Huerta.
To keep things lively, Ojeda has invited an award-winning ballroom dancing couple Benedicto Rodríguez Ovalle and Lucerne Luis Rodríguez Ovalle to demonstrate competition-level cha-cha-cha dancing. “Who knows, by the end of the event, we may all end up learning a basic step or two,” he chuckles.
A one-time performance, “One, Two, CHA-CHA-CHA!” will take place at The Palm Cabaret and Bar on Saturday, November 28 at 4 pm. The Palm is located at Olas Altas 508 in Colonia Emiliano Zapata. Tickets are available at the box office and through vallartatickets.com. Find out about other exciting performances at The Palm by visiting their website, thepalmpv.com.
