My friend Brad had been telling me about Casa Pericos, a new multilevel getaway palapa, for a few months now. And after hearing all sorts of amazing stories about the owner traveling all the way to Bali to bring in a wealth of beautiful furnishings for this incredible hideaway, I had to see it with my own eyes. I was able to do this a couple of months ago, while my friends Earl and Joe were visiting from Boston. The place was still waiting for some finishing touches. Two months later, it is open for business. Blair, who owns the place, invited me to visit last week and photograph Casa Pericos in exchange for an overnight stay, my favorite way to work!
Casa Pericos is a luxurious three-unit palapa located in what is known by Yelapa locals as “the point.” Still, it only takes 5-7 minutes to walk into town from its privileged location. Each unit is self-sufficcient, featuring its own kitchennette, bathroom and so forth. Of course, the crown jewel here is the spacious top palapa, a wonderful place to have an intimate gathering with friends, something I hope to do sometime in the near future… It is amazing how quickly those of us who live here year-around can forget about all these amazing places that surround Puerto Vallarta!
