Restaurant Week 2009 News

I spent some time today getting caught up with Gary Beck’s Puerto Vallarta Yahoo groups and was surprised (and pleased!) to find that, even though it’s only February, there are already a few comments floating these mailing lists about this year’s Restaurant Week event. For those not in the know, Vallarta Lifestyles Publishing Group began producing Restaurant Week, an annual, two-week event, for the past five years, including the 2009 one, which will take place May 15 – 31, as in years past.

From the get go, Restaurant Week was designed to entice locals to try favorite Puerto Vallarta restaurants with specially-priced, three-course menus, and to encourage visitors to warm up (pun intended!) to the rising temperatures that begin showing up in the region after April. The event continues to be a huge success. In fact, many Puerto Vallarta visitors now plan their travels to our destination around those dates!

Being privy to inside information, I’m frequently asked about the event… What will the prices be? Who will participate? So! There are still a few restaurants making up their minds as of today, which could become last-minute additions. But, aside from the fact that we know the cost of the menus for this year are going to be $169 $179 or $269 $299 pesos, the almost complete list of participating restaurants includes:

  • Al Fresco
  • Archie’s Wok
  • Banana Cantina
  • Barcelona
  • Bocabento
  • Bubba Gump Shrimp
  • Café des Artistes
  • Café des Artistes del Mar
  • Cilantro’s
  • Coco Tropical
  • Daiquiri Dick’s
  • El Arrayán
  • El Dorado
  • Epoca
  • Hacienda San Angel
  • Japanice
  • Kaiser Maximilian
  • La Estancia
  • La Palapa
  • Le Kliff
  • Mar Azul
  • Mestizo
  • Mezzogiorno
  • Porto Bello
  • Roberto’s
  • Si Señor
  • The Blue Shrimp
  • The River Cafe
  • Tikul
  • Trattoria Michel
  • Trio
  • Vista Grill
  • Thierry’s Prime Steakhouse
  • Vitea

A complete list of restaurants and their menus should be available online at on April 20.

Gary’s Groups

If you are not familiar with them, Gary Beck’s Yahoo Groups, Puerto Vallarta Gay Travel and Old Town/South Side are two excellent sources of information. Whether you are about to board a plane to our destination for the very first time, or whether you live here and are looking for insider’s tips, These are good resources to keep in mind. (And since I know you keep an eye on my blog, Gary, this post’s for you! —Paco)

  1. Paco, too funny. You Know I Do!!! Thanks for the blurb about the message boards. I make no pesos off them but set them up because of my intense love for our PV and wish to share amongst all the members: where to go, what to eat, what to wear, how to pay your electric bill, etc. And everyone reading, Paco is a one of a kind in our town. He works, lives and breathes PV. Pick up a fantastic copy of Vallarta Lifestyles and see what he manages.

While you are at it, order my latest edition of PV dining guide at

Let’s all get together and share our stories over comida…

    1. You mean, you have discovered a way to make time stand still or last longer?

I’m so glad you took the time to comment. Welcome to the board! Perhaps we can put aside a Restaurant Week event for ourselves, or find a nice meal between now and then.
